The history of Ottawa\u2019s military units that actively defended Canada against the Fenian Raids in the 19th century dates back to the country\u2019s early military development. After the Confederation was established in 1867, the Canadian government created a standing militia to protect the country from potential threats. At that time, the primary concern was the Fenians.
